Up For The Challenge – Carrie Jones Chats to CITY

Due to December postponements, the Foxes have not played since a heavy defeat to reigning Barclays Women’s Super League champions Chelsea at the start of December, while their next competitive fixture is set to be the meeting with Sunderland in the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday 11 January (7:30pm kick-off).
That rearranged trip to the North East comes four days before the WSL returns with a home match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday (3pm kick-off), as City go in search of their maiden points of the campaign.
Speaking to CITY, the Club’s matchday publication which will be available to purchase from King Power Stadium ahead of Leicester City's men’s fixture against Fulham on Tuesday evening, Jones outlined how progress is being made back at Belvoir Drive prior to the restart.
The Wales international commented: “The bad weather last month hasn’t really helped with a couple of games being called off, but with that, alongside the short break over Christmas, it’s given us a chance to mentally refresh ready to go again.
“I feel like every day we come in we’re getting better so those positive results aren’t too far away. We need to keep trusting and believing in ourselves. All we can do is look forward and focus on the next game. I’m confident that we’re all fully prepared for the next run of games.”
Featuring in all but one league fixture this term, making seven starts, the Manchester United loanee has become a key part of Willie Kirk’s attack. Looking back over her time at the Club so far, Jones hopes to progress further as the season continues.
The 19-year-old added: “The first half of the season has been very challenging in many different ways but I’m enjoying my time here and I feel like I’m developing as a player and more importantly as a person too.
“I feel like I’ve given my all and that’s what I’ll do every single time I step on the pitch. I’m also someone that demands more from myself and I watch all the games back with the coaching staff to pick up on any other areas that I can help the team.
“All in all, I’m pleased with how I’ve done so far but know that there’s more to come.”
