In an attempt to bolster their defensive record, the Foxes have completed the loan signing of Leitzig from Bayern Munich, who hopes her extensive experience at a young age will benefit the City team as they push for survival in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Upon signing her contract, the 6ft goalkeeper spoke with LCFC TV for a first sit-down interview, in which she spoke of her excitement to get going.

“It feels really good, I’m very happy to be here,” Leitzig said. “I’m ready to get going. The facilities are great here [at Belvoir Drive], and I’m excited to get training and make the most of the opportunity.

I’ve watched some [WSL] games before, and I think they show how physical they can be. There are good qualities in the teams in this league so it will be a good test for myself.

Having featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and internationally for Germany, Leicester’s new ‘keeper is confident she can translate her previous endeavours into positive performances as the Foxes look to stabilise themselves in the top flight of women’s football.

“I’ve gained a lot of experience in Germany,” she continued. “I hope to bring that here, into the top level in England. I’ve played in top competitions and against good opponents in the past so I’m looking forward to carrying that on here.

Leitzig has also played for Hoffenheim, and therefore has a connection in the team with Scottish defender Sophie Howard, from their playing time together in Germany, but states how the whole team has been quick to help her settle in.

“The team has welcomed me in, and everyone has been very nice,” the new signing explained. “They have good quality and I’m happy to be here and get started.

“It’s my first time in England, so it’s a new culture and way of living but I’m excited to learn a new lifestyle and improve my English!

“I know a few of the players, such as Sophie Howard, who I played with at Hoffenheim. But all the players have been very kind so I’m sure I’ll fit in nicely.”
