Marcal-Madivadua: Positives To Take

Wanya Marcal-Madivadua believes Leicester City’s Development Squad were unfortunate to leave Meadow Park without anything to show from their efforts on Friday.

The Foxes youngsters were defeated 2-1 by Arsenal Under-21s despite the winger’s opener, which was then cancelled out by Zach Awe’s equaliser. It looked as though the visitors would claim a point in Borehamwood, until Nathan Butler-Oyedeji’s late winner.

It was a second successive Premier League 2 Division 1 defeat for City’s Under-21s following the restart, despite a promising performance across the pitch for the majority of the game.

“Obviously, we’re a bit disappointed,” he reflected to LCFC TV. “Following on from Monday's game against Chelsea, we were expecting a better result. We played really well, deserved more from the game, but we ended up losing.

Marcal-Madivadua Nets In Arsenal Reverse

Wanya Marcal-Madivadua scored for Leicester City's Development Squad in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at Meadow Park.

“It was a very good start. We came out hungry for a result. They told us to start against Arsenal the way Chelsea started against us. We just came out hungry to just prove what we can do and we did for the first 30 minutes.

“When we lost the ball, we were there on the second balls. It was a very good corner from Fitzy (Ethan Fitzhugh) and JT (Tawanda Maswanhise) and luckily, they found me and I put it in.

“Everyone put a shift in, so well done to the boys, but they just snatched in the end. Everyone did their job, all worked really hard off the ball and on the ball, which is a positive that we can take from the game.”

It was good to get a goal. I'd rather it came on my first game back, it came on the second, but yes, I just do everything I can to help the team.

The 20-year-old played the full game for the first time since an injury which had kept him out for the majority of the campaign so far, and he marked it with a goal – his second in PL2 this term.

“It's been a while,” the Portuguese midfielder continued. “It’s about five months since I last played in 90 minutes. It was good to get a goal today. I'd rather it came on my first game back, it came on the second, but yes, I just do everything I can to help the team.

“The hammy is a bit tight now after my first 90 minutes, I wasn't expecting to play 90. When I got told I had to play a little bit more, obviously, I did it with a smile on my face. Anything to help the team out, so I just got on with it.”

Important Not To Dwell, Says Marcal-Madivadua

Goalscorer Wanya Marcal-Madivadua gives his account of the Leicester City Development Squad's narrow loss to Arsenal in Premier League 2 Division 1.

Currently 13th in the league standings, with nine points from 13 games, Leicester face a daunting task next, with Manchester City set to make the trip to LCFC Training Ground on Friday (7pm kick-off).

He added: “It's really important. We've got an important game next week. This was against Arsenal who are second in the league. I think against second in the league, to put in a performance like that, it's unlucky not to take a result.

“I think, from this game, we can really take all the positives and take it into next week. It’s disappointing, but we move on to Man City next Friday.”
