- The Foxes now have two league wins in the 2022/23 campaign
- ‘Hopefully there’s more to come’, says Cain

After missing the first half of the season with an ACL injury, Cain has returned with a bang, having scored two goals in three games across all competitions, including Sunday’s decisive strike against Liverpool.

The goal itself was one off the training ground, when January addition Courtney Nevin pulled a corner back to the edge of the box, where the No.21 was ready to turn the ball goalwards.

After the game, Cain told LCFC TV: “I’m over the moon to score! It’s also Courtney’s birthday and she got the assist so buzzing for us both!

“Funny story, we actually practiced it in training yesterday and I scored a better version of it, so I didn’t think it would come off again. The reaction summed it up, I was buzzing.

“I thought that if I get contact with it and direct it towards the goal then I’d have a strong chance of it finding the net."

Scoring so early on meant that there would be 80 minutes of nerves, as the Foxes looked to hold off the hosts' advances and secure a second WSL clean sheet of the season.

Hearing the full-time whistle was music to the ears of Leicester's playerrs, and the goalscorer was keen to share the applause with her team-mates.

“Sometimes you don’t put in the performances that you really wanted to, and today was a grind,” the Welsh forward continued. “Getting the early goal was great to settle the nerves and to then put in the team performance like we did to hold on was outstanding.

“The points are massive. We came here to win the game, and we’ve quietened a few people down by winning it, so the team are really happy with the result.

There were a few nervy moments at the end there but the work was absolutely outstanding.

“There were a few nervy moments at the end there, but the work was absolutely outstanding and we’re very lucky to have a goalkeeper like Janina [Leitzig] – the ball stuck to her!"

Voted Player of the Match by the Leicester faithful on social media, the centre-forward is hoping that the goals will start to flow, as City close the gap to those above them in the standings.

She added: “I’ve been trying to get that first WSL goal for a couple of weeks now, and to get the first one was great and hopefully there’s many more to come.

“As a striker, sometimes it doesn’t go your way, and I have been getting a little bit frustrated. To get it today and for it to be the winning goal was great."
