Spencer-Adams: We Weren’t Good Enough

A frustrated Bayli Spencer-Adams says it was sloppy goals that made the difference as Leicester City’s Development Squad were defeated by Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Currently 14th in Premier League 2 Division 1, the young Foxes were beaten heavily in Merseyside as Ben Doak scored twice and forced another in a 7-1 victory for the Reds.

After the game, Spencer-Adams spoke to LCFC.com and gave an honest reflection as the centre-half stated the City performance wasn’t good enough.

“I thought we were in the game for the first 40 minutes,” Spencer-Adams explained. “But then there was a sloppy goal which we didn’t recover from, and the second half display just wasn’t good enough.

To concede two sloppy goals wasn’t good enough and killed the game off – we didn’t recover from it.

“After the game, Ben [Petty] told us that we need to keep our heads up and get ready to go again. He told us the truths which we needed to hear – as players we’re not performing well enough, and not doing the basics well.

“But we must keep working and pick ourselves up because there is still work to be done and we’ve got a big game coming up against Blackburn Rovers.”

Focus now turns to Rovers, who the Foxes will face in league competition on Monday 6 March (7pm kick-off) at LCFC Training Ground.

There were five different Liverpool goalscorers as the young Foxes fell to defeat on Merseyside.

The young defender admits it is hard to look past the Liverpool loss at the moment, but the team will work hard and do everything in their power to put things right.

“I think that if we went into the break at 1-1 then we would’ve had a chance in the second half to get three points,” he continued. “But to concede two sloppy goals wasn’t good enough and killed the game off – we didn’t recover from it.

“Blackburn is a must win game now, we must aim to win against every team, but this is a big one as we need the points. We’ll be working hard throughout the week and ready to go for it when the match comes around.”
