On Friday afternoon, Leicester City announced that midfielder Robinson signed her first pro deal with the Club, highlighting the pathway that has been established between the Academy and the senior squad.

Upon signing her first pro deal, the Academy graduate sat down with LCFC TV to explain the emotions of achieving something that has been a long-term ambition of the player since a young age.

"I'm buzzing,” Robinson stated. “It's something I've always dreamed about since being a little kid, and now it's here, it's just the first step in my chapter going forward.

Monique Robinson was thrilled to put pen to paper this week.

“I think it's really built my character, being among the senior squad while still at a young age. You learn a lot more of the game, gain the experience from the older players, so it's really helped me develop.

“They've helped me grow, both on and off the pitch, so they're always willing to give me knowledge, whether I'm asking questions or if I'm making a mistake in training, they'll tell me what I need to do better and I appreciate that because it just helps me at the end of the day.”

Robinson has certainly made a positive impact already during her short time with the first team, and netted her first WSL goal in a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion back in January – which was also the Foxes’ first victory of the 2022/23 campaign.

Reminiscing about the moment when her strike from the edge of the box hit the back of the net, the 18-year-old explained how important the Academy infrastructure has been in allowing her to achieve this ambition.

“I was elated,” Robinson continued. “It's something you dream of as a kid, scoring your first goal, and it was our first win of the season as well, so I was buzzing. I think the Academy has been massive in my development. Playing against other WSL Academies has helped me prepare for the seniors, making the step up.

“It’s been good (being able to continue playing for the Academy) because it allows me to get my match minutes up and I saw a decent quality of football that helped me take it into the senior game.

I want to aim to become a regular starter.

“Having a shared development plan between the two lots of staff allowed me to develop what I'm looking to improve, whether it's in the senior game or the Academy games, and it's always the same thing.”

With five games of the season left, and the battle for WSL survival heating up, Robinson is keen to help the team in any way she can, to achieve the best possible finish, starting when the Foxes welcome Liverpool to King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon (12:30pm BST kick-off).

She added: “I just want to be there for the team, making sure whether I'm on the pitch or off the pitch, that I'm supporting the team and pushing them to go the furthest that we can and stay up.

“For the short term, I want to aim to become a regular starter, that's definitely my aim.”
