Going Into Arsenal Without Fear, Says Cain

Hannah Cain believes the pressure is on Arsenal ahead of LCFC Women’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash with the north Londoners on Friday evening at Meadow Park.

Leicester are a team in form at the moment, having passed through April with a 100 per cent record thanks to wins over Reading and Liverpool, either side of the international break.

With City scoring six goals on their way to six points, striker Cain spoke to the media during Wednesday’s press conference, describing how the mood around camp is lively ahead of their next test, an away fixture to Arsenal on Friday.

“As you can imagine, everyone is on a bit of a high,” Cain explained. “We’re performing well and we’re getting the results we know we can get. It’s nice that we’re getting the points that align with the performances we’re putting in, unlike earlier on in the season.

“You could hear from the fans how good the atmosphere is at home, and we just want to keep pushing on now to show what we can do. We’re fighting against the odds, and lots of people thought we couldn’t make it (to survival), but now we’re showing that we might, and that’s a credit to the staff and players that we have here.”

Goals Galore In Liverpool Women Win

Saturday's goals as LCFC Women dispatched Liverpool 4-0 at King Power Stadium.

With three of the Foxes’ four league wins this season coming on home soil, the Welsh international emphasised how important the Leicester fanbase has been in their recent success. She hopes that the desire to keep fighting stays until the season’s conclusion at the end of the month.

She added: “I absolutely love playing at King Power Stadium, we all do. We tend to believe we are playing better at home and that’s thanks to the fans, and the support never goes unnoticed. I think I spend about an hour outside after every game speaking to the fans.

“They’re really appreciated on social media and everywhere we go. The fact that we perform well on Filbert Way shows how much their support means and will mean throughout the rest of the season, and hopefully we can take that support on the road.

“No one wants to be in a relegation battle, and we’ve been fighting really hard from day one but especially since January. We have our target that we want to reach, which we’re on target for, so if we stick together, we’re hopeful that we’ll stay up.

“You believe that you can do it, but until you have done it, there’s always a bit in the back of your mind thinking: ‘Are we going to do it?’ But once you have something tangible, like lifting ourselves off bottom spot, then you can feel it.

There’s an element of no fear, and we believe the pressure is on Arsenal.

“Seeing yourself higher up the league always give you that extra boost of confidence, and now that we’re two spaces above it, it’s even better. We need to knuckle down and keep working.

“I think survival has always been in our hands, we’ve never focused on other teams around us, we just work towards our target, and that’s why we’ve got the performances that we have."

Friday’s test will not be an easy one, as City travel to north London to face an Arsenal side who only this week were eliminated from the UEFA Women’s Champions League Semi-Final by VFL Wolfsburg, after pushing the German outfit all the way to extra-time in front of 60,000 fans at Emirates Stadium.

But as their attention changes back to the WSL, LCFC Women's No.21 hopes that the travelling Foxes can use their aggressive nature to force the game onto the Gunners, who she believes will carry the pressure come matchday.

“The main thing for us is trying to get whatever result we can on Friday,” Cain continued. “We know that we’re playing a team that has just been in the semi-final of the Champions League, and how much quality they have.

“But we’re ready for this test, and the vibes around the training ground are positive, so we’re looking forward to a good game on Friday night.

“There’s an element of no fear, and we believe the pressure is on Arsenal. That’s probably been the case for most of the season as no one expected us to pick up as many points as we have done.

“But I like being the underdog, as it makes it even sweeter when you get those positive results, and we’ll be looking to do that on Friday. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing.”
