Hong Kong Soccer Sevens Schedule Finalised
- The 2023 HKFC Soccer Sevens competition begins later this month
- Leicester City’s Under-21s have been drawn in a four-team Group C pool
- Their opponents include fellow Premier League side Newcastle United
- Both sides have previously lifted the Main Cup title in Happy Valley
Held at Hong Kong Football Club, the popular competition returns to Happy Valley following a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since debuting at the event back in 2012, the Club has enjoyed several successes in Hong Kong and Leicester’s side will once again come up against an illustrious list of youngsters from across the globe this time around.
The young Foxes, twice winners of the Main Cup trophy, mostly recently in 2017, will take to the pitch on Saturday 27 May, playing all of their Group C fixtures.
Matches are seven-a-side, contested over two seven-minute halves. Drawn in a pool containing three other sides, Leicester will kick-off the campaign with an encounter against HKFC Captain’s Select.
Success in Hong Kong
Hamza Choudhury lifts the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens trophy in Hong Kong in May 2017.
Hong Kong Football Club will be up next for the side coached by Ben Petty, before City take on reigning Soccer Sevens champions Newcastle United Under-21s in their third and final group fixture.
Sides from each of the four groups will qualify for either Sunday’s Main Cup Quarter-Finals, Main Shield or Main Plate competitions. Each cup will conclude that day, with the Main Cup Final the last event of the day.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Rangers are in Group A, with debutants Fulham the only Premier League club represented in Group B. There’s English representation in Group D, too, with both Brighton & Hove Albion and Queens Park Rangers drawn in that pool.
