Thomas & England Crowned U21 European Champions

England's Under-21s, with Leicester City Academy graduate Luke Thomas in the squad, are new European champions.

- England have won the UEFA U21 European Championships
- Luke Thomas made two appearances over the summer tournament
- He starred in wins over Germany and then Israel, but did not feature in the final
- Lee Carsley's youngsters beat Spain 1-0 in the showpiece on Saturday

Thomas played twice for the Young Lions over the course of UEFA U21 EURO 2023, helping Lee Carsley's side to wins over Germany and Israel, the latter coming in the semi-finals earlier this week. 

The Foxes full-back was an unused substitute for England's youngsters in Saturday's final, with Curtis Jones deflecting a Cole Palmer free-kick into the net for the winner against Spain at Adjarabet Arena in Georgia. A penalty save from goalkeeper James Trafford, to deny Sergio Camello, edged England over the line in dramatic circumstances at the very end.

Luke Thomas was involved in two England wins at the tournament this summer.

England last won the U21 EURO in 1984 and this was their first final since 2009. Thomas, meanwhile, now has 15 caps to his name at Under-21s level, having also represented his country for the Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-20s.
