A 23-year-old shot-stopper admired for his abilities in his homeland, Hermansen becomes City’s fourth summer signing ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Foxes’ promotion charge has also been boosted by the arrivals of Harry Winks, Conor Coady and Callum Doyle.
Speaking inside the players’ recreational room at City’s Seagrave HQ, the 6ft 1in 'keeper beamed as he outlined the excitement he feels to get to work in Leicestershire. The Club’s potential and past glories both attracted him to Leicester City following two years of senior football in Denmark.
“First of all, I’m very, very proud to be here,” Hermansen said. “It’s a big moment for me and my family and I’m very happy. I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“Leicester is a very big club. It has so much potential. The [Premier League winning] season, of course, stands out for me. I’ve always followed the Premier League so, for me, that was a great season for the Club. I really felt inspired during that season because that was a real team.”
Emerging through the Danish ranks and hopeful of becoming a full senior international one day, Hermansen has bumped into several players with Foxes links over the years. Legendary former goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is among them – as are Daniel Iversen and Victor Kristiansen.
Associations with that trio helped the talented goalkeeper make the decision to join City and join their mission to earn promotion from the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking.
Discussing his relationship with Schmeichel and Iversen, he added: “I talk to them both. They’re very nice guys. They’re in the national team and they only have positive things to say about the Club. It’s always nice to have someone to go to. I know Victor very well as well. It’s very nice for me.”
I think I developed in a very good way and I’m looking forward to taking the next steps with Leicester. I really like to be on the ball.
Mads Hermansen
Hermansen is hoping to showcase his attributes during his time with Leicester City. He’s renowned in Denmark for his ball-playing skills, alongside shot-stopping talent. Some fans will have already seen montages of penalty heroics and close-range saves, but he aims to bring more to the table.
“I’ve played two full seasons for Brøndby,” he explained. “I think I developed in a very good way and I’m looking forward to taking the next steps with Leicester. I really like to be on the ball.
“I like to play and be, as much as I can, in the game. I think I’m fast on the line, reaction-wise. Hopefully I can help the team by building up also.”
