Marçal: The Message Stays The Same

Wanya Marçal says Leicester City’s motivation will not waver as they bid to build on a positive opening to the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Three league wins from three see Enzo Maresca’s side sit second in the early standings, as the aim to secure an immediate return to the top-flight gathers momentum.

The Manager's message and tactical idea becomes stronger with each passing week, Marçal believes, as the squad continues to grow in confidence, lifted by results on the pitch.

“I think we’re playing well defensively and offensively, but we can always do better,” the Academy graduate reflected. “It’s just about focusing and taking it game by game and it’ll come.

Wanya Marçal vs. Cardiff City

Wanya Marçal nets his first goal for the Club on the way to a 2-1 win over Cardiff City.

“Comparing it now to the start of pre-season, it’s much better but we’ve still got a lot of improving to do. We’re getting there. The style of play will help. The fans will really enjoy it once we start really kicking on with how he wants us to play in the next months, to really make it click.

“It’s been a good start but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. After four wins on the bounce, we just need to keep it going. If we keep going into every game just thinking about that game and getting three points, we’ll build and get to where we should be.”

Marçal played a key role in the latest Foxes triumph over Cardiff City last weekend, contributing with the opening goal – his maiden strike in senior football. It’s a moment he hopes to use a catalyst for further improvement on a personal level.

“It was nice,” the 20-year-old recalled. “It was a good first goal to score and it’s just given me bags of confidence. I just want to kick on, score more and help the team as much as possible.”

I hope they come out and enjoy the game and we can put on a show for them, score goals and get a clean sheet.

Rotherham United present Leicester’s latest league challenge, with Saturday’s trip to New York Stadium (3pm kick-off) an opportunity to extend City’s 100 per cent record. It will be far from easy, though with the backing of the travelling Blue Army, it’s another game that excites Marçal.

The Portuguese youth international added: “It’s going to be a tough test. Every game is going to be tough. I think Rotherham are more of a physical team and obviously playing away from home is always going to be difficult. But we’ve started working towards the game and the team is ready for what is to come.

“We’re prepared, we know it’s going to be a tough game and we just need to focus to get the win. I think there’s no better motivation than winning, to be fair. So, it’s just about keeping the momentum going, not letting it drop and keep scoring goals.

“I can’t wait. Hopefully I get on the pitch. Seeing the travelling fans, I hope they come out and enjoy the game and we can put on a show for them, score goals, get a clean sheet and it will be an enjoyable afternoon.”
