Maresca Provides Update On Cannon Injury
- Tom Cannon is out with a 'stress fracture' in his back, says Enzo Maresca
- The former Everton striker has not yet trained with his Leicester City team-mates
- Dennis Praet has also been absent with a 'similar' back complaint
- City take on Norwich City at Carrow Road on Wednesday (8pm BST kick-off)
The Irish forward signed for the Club from Everton on Deadline Day but has not yet trained with his new team-mates. Maresca says the problem was found when Cannon joined but is unable to provide a timeframe on his recovery.
The Foxes head to Carrow Road to face Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship on Wednesday evening, searching for a sixth win in seven league matches. Dennis Praet has also been out recently with a 'similar' back issue.
Tom Cannon
Tom Cannon signed a five-year contract with Leicester City late last month.
"We found a problem when [Cannon] signed," the Manager confirmed on Tuesday. "Because he’s a long-term investment, it doesn’t mean we need him now, so we prefer to be careful on that to make all the checks that we need to do.
"At the moment, he’s not training with us, so it will be quite long. It’s very similar to Dennis Praet’s injury. It’s a stress fracture in his back. We still don’t know how long. He hasn’t trained in any session with us."
The Championship fixture schedule is now in full swing, combining weekend matches with midweek encounters too. Maresca says the depth of his squad will become increasingly useful as the Foxes navigate the challenges to come.
Hopefully we don’t have any injuries. At the moment when we do have some injuries, it’s good to have a different choice and to use them.
Enzo Maresca
"It’s a game every three games until the international break in October," he added. "We need to manage this kind of situation, try to share minutes, use all the players. This is already the reason why we made some changes the other night.
"We’ll see tomorrow if we make some more changes."
Managing the workload of players will be a challenge, Maresca admits, especially with so many wingers at the Club.
'It’s not easy!" he laughed. "Probably now Wanya [Marçal] is the guy that is getting less minutes. He’s playing with the Under-21s. The reason why is not because he’s doing bad with us. It’s simply because we have many wingers, so we try to share minutes.
"Hopefully we don’t have any injuries. When we do have some injuries, it’s good to have a different choice and to use them."
