Bott: Frustrating To Not Take Anything

LCFC Women defender CJ Bott was disappointed to earn nothing following a 1-0 loss against Manchester City on Saturday evening, but hopes the fans are starting to see belief in their approach to each game.

Leicester have started their 2023/24 campaign in impressive form, picking up seven points in their opening four Barclays Women's Super League games, but saw their first defeat of the season when a single goal from Chloe Kelly was all that separated the two sides at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Following a narrow defeat to the Citizens, Bott described her emotions after the match, and explained her frustration to not taking anything, but hopes that people are starting to see a new Leicester as the team work hard to improve perceptions.

"I'm definitely frustrated," the No.4 explained. "I think we set the bar pretty high for ourselves this season and yes it's Man City, but to be honest, we don't care about the opposition; we want to win and we came here to win so we're frustrated to not take anything.

I hope that our fans and everyone else watching are starting to believe in us as much as we're believing in ourselves now.

"We want to rid ourselves of the name we had over the last couple of seasons, and instead recreate a Leicester City for the fans which I think we're on the road to doing. We've proven ourselves so far, but we want to keep going.

"The Man Utd result gave us a confidence boost, but we don't fear opposition anymore. We came to take three points, but unfortunately we fell short today. We should've been level at half-time, but couldn't take our chances, and it was frustrating to let them have an easy chance at goal, but we'll learn from it."

The past two seasons have seen City fighting for WSL survival, achieving that on the final day last term with a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion to overturn a 10-point deficit, but with seven points already accumulated, scoring six goals along the way, the New Zealand international was keen to speak about the work being done.

CJ Bott's start against Man City on Saturday was only her second in the WSL this season.

"It's definitely tough playing the way we do," Bott admitted. "It's a high-risk, high-reward style of football which is a lot of fun to play, but I'm sure can have the fans clutching at their seats for periods at a time. We know it makes us vulnerable, but we do it for a reason and unfortunately it didn't come off tonight, but we know that it's coming.

"I hope that our fans and everyone else watching are starting to believe in us as much as we're believing in ourselves now. We're a new Leicester that is coming here to win, and I'm sure we'll keep showing that.

"There's international fixtures for some of us, and hard work continues for others, but we develop as a team. It'll be tough to be apart for a week or so but we'll come back stronger for sure."
