Alex Smithies has left Leicester City after announcing his retirement from the professional game.
- Experienced goalkeeper Alex Smithies leaves Leicester City
- The 33-year-old has been forced to retire due to injury
- He joined the Foxes in August 2022
The experienced goalkeeper, 33, joined the Foxes in 2022 after a spell with Cardiff City and would go on to support the goalkeeping department during his year-and-a-half term at King Power Stadium.
However, following a run of persistent injuries, Alex has regrettably been forced to call time on a 17-year playing career that saw him make nearly 500 senior appearances for Huddersfield Town, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff.
Leicester City would like to place on record our appreciation to Alex and offer him and his family our best wishes for the future.
