Thibaud: We Want To Qualify

With five points from their first three games, qualification to the quarter-finals of the competition is still possible with a win against the Toffees at Pirelli Stadium this week.
The first of two fixtures against Everton this week, the French defender is hoping to show their progress and get back to winning ways, last tasting victory in a 4-0 display against Derby County in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
“We want to win every game,” Thibaud commented. “It was good to start the New Year with a win over Derby because the cup is always a different atmosphere and enjoyable to play in.
“We played good football in that game, we kept a clean sheet and scored good goals so you could see the confidence was there.
“Of course, we wanted to win against Villa too, but the performance wasn’t quite there. We know our process is long and we’ll just continue to work to put that right on Wednesday.”
Thibaud explained the connection building between herself and centre-back partner Sophie Howard, and was full of praise for the Scottish international, adding how she brings confidence to her own game.
She continued: “When you play centre-back, you always play with someone, and when you come into a new team it’s hard to build something at the beginning because you don’t know each other.
“But I’ve got to know Sophie [Howard] and understand her strengths and I think we complete each other. We understand each other’s game and it’s been better in recent games.
“She is so strong which is good for me because she is confident to play. I’m not scared to leave her with a player because she is so strong in the duels. For me it is good to play with this type of player because you don’t have to think about everything.”
City Lose Out To Villa In The WSL
The highlights from Pirelli Stadium, as LCFC Women were narrowly beaten by a Rachel Daly strike in the first half.
Following a narrow defeat to Aston Villa in the Barclays Women’s Super League last Friday, the Foxes return to Pirelli Stadium with a point to prove, against Everton who are bottom of Group B and without a point.
City have faced them once already this season, when a Lena Petermann strike was the difference at King Power Stadium, and Leicester will be hoping for a similar result on Wednesday before facing them again this weekend in the WSL.
“It’s always a different structure when we have two games in a week,” Thibaud explained. “But we want to win our Conti Cup fixture because we are so close to getting through to the quarter-finals, so we’ll try our best to qualify.
“After the cup game, we’ll focus on the league game because we know we want points, so we’ll be playing to get the three points and kick on from there.”
