GOTS Award Means So Much, Says Justin
- James Justin won Leicester City's Men's Goal of the Season award on Tuesday
- He picked up the honour for his brilliant hit at Cardiff City in December
- The England defender described the 'amazing feeling' to win the prize
- He also reflected on the season as a whole and looked ahead to Saturday
A superb long-range effort at Cardiff City in December was selected as the best strike of 2023/24 by the Blue Army at Tuesday's End of Season Awards, which saw Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall win Player and Players' Player of the Season.
Justin, who has made 43 appearances in all competitions this term, explained his thinking for the goal, which sealed a 2-0 win at Cardiff City Stadium. The Foxes will return to the Premier League as Sky Bet Championship champions.
He said: “It’s something that I would never have expected at the start of the season, but to win the award – with all the special goals that we’ve scored this season – it means so much. For me to win the award, it’s an amazing feeling.
James Justin vs. Cardiff City
An extraordinary hit from James Justin doubles their lead at Cardiff City.
“I think I took a touch to get it out my body and I looked at the goal. I thought: ‘I’m not really sure about this one!’ I decided to hit it and, in the end, it just went in and went in nicely.”
Toasting the Club's eighth second-tier title has been a moment to savour for Justin, who feels the achievement cannot be overstated.
“It’s been amazing celebrating it with all the fans and the team and the staff,” Justin added. “It’s been incredible. Promotion is not something that should be taken lightly. Especially going up as champions. It’s something that we can all be proud of.”
Justin: I Never Expected This!
Men's Goal of the Season winner James Justin speaks after picking up his award on Tuesday night.
Looking back on the season as a whole, the former Luton Town full-back pointed to a 1-0 loss at Plymouth Argyle in April which in fact galvanised the team and put them on a course for glory.
“It’s incredible, the change in atmosphere and mood,” he explained. “It’s one of those times in the season where we'll look back on for years to come as the game which changed everything. Before that, we were in control, and after those few games where we were struggling, everyone just came together. We showed what a good team we are.”
On Saturday, Leicester will lift the Championship trophy in front of the Foxes faithful - and Justin is looking forward to sharing the moment with the fans.
“It’ll be amazing, I can’t wait!” City’s No.2 said. “It’s everything that this Club needed and everything that it deserved.”
