Kees, a 23-year-old centre back, has signed for the Foxes and brings with her an abundance of knowledge from her previous club Oud-Heverlee Leuven and on the international stage with Belgium.
A first time competing in the Barclays Women’s Super League, the defender will add quality to a backline which Manager Amandine Miquel hopes to knit together, in order to reach new heights in England’s top flight.
“It’s a really good opportunity for me to come here from Leuven,” Kees opened with. “Having the connection between the two clubs, it’s a big opportunity to be here.
“I’ve been once or twice before with Leuven and Belgium, and I know it’s really good here but now I get the chance to be here permanently and I’m excited to get going.
“When I came to Belvoir Drive before we thought it was a really nice training ground and it was amazing to find out it was all for the women’s team.”
Kees is enthusiastic about coming across to the East Midlands and being part of the journey with City; explaining how her competitive nature and composure on the field can help the team succeed.
“For myself, I wanted to come here and to the WSL because it’s very different to the Belgium league,” the 23-year-old continued. “Every weekend you have another game, and each game is so competitive and it’s a good place for me to build.
“I’d say I’m really calm in my game, and I like to play football, not to play a lot of long balls from the back and always competing in the duels, so I think I can bring that to the team.”
Kees becomes the second Belgian defender to call Belvoir Drive their home, following Janice Cayman’s arrival last season, before putting pen to paper on a new deal earlier on this summer.
Assured to know that she will have a fellow countrywoman within the squad to help settle in, the international centre-half can’t wait to meet all her new team-mates and get the new season started.
Kees added: “I know Janice [Cayman] was here and she told me how happy she was being here, and it’s great she’s signed for another year because she’s a good friend, in the national team too.
“I want to talk to everyone and be social with the other players, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, and it’s good to have the different cultures in the team, and girls from different countries as well.”
