Four months on from their last WSL fixture, in which City faced Liverpool at King Power Stadium, competitive action is back on the cards for the Foxes, after a long pre-season which included flying out to Australia for the Perth International Football Cup.

Heading into the opening weekend, Cayman spoke to the media and was keen to speak on the positivity flowing throughout the group and the impact new Manager Amandine Miquel has had.

"Pre-season actually flew by, especially with us going to Australia as well," Cayman said. "I thought it was a good moment for the team to bond, with some interesting games as well. It was very positive for the group to go there.

We know the start won't be easy but we need to play to our strengths.

"I knew of the new Manager because I've played Stade de Reims a lot. I know as a coach she was someone that wanted to take risks and I was excited when she signed here.

"It's a different approach to what we were used to last year, and I'm interested to see how it develops but, for now, the group is feeling good and playing good so hopefully we can keep that going."

The squad has been strengthened on the field of play, adding the likes of Ruby Mace, Chantelle Swaby and Noémie Mouchon to the fold, while full-back Asmita Ale returned from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis.

"I think we have a good mix of different players and have also added some players in positions that we needed," Cayman continued. "I think we'll need everybody this season, and it's a good thing to know we have the depth and the quality.

'We'll Need Everybody Working Together This Season'

Janice Cayman previews LCFC Women's season opener against Liverpool.

"We know the start won't be easy but we need to play to our strengths and, in general, have a better season than last year. When we get into leads, we need to hold onto them which would make a massive difference."

Looking ahead to a Liverpool test this weekend, the former UEFA Women's Champions League winner spoke about the mentality of the group and the sort of battle they can expect to bring to Merseyside.

Cayman added: "We're mostly excited because even though I think pre-season went by quickly, it was eight weeks so I think we're all ready to get started now. It's a big game too against Liverpool which was our final game last season.

"I hope we can show that we've progressed as a team and that we can make it a difficult game for them."
