McAteer A Late Substitute In Ireland Defeat

Leicester's involvement in the weekend's international stage was concluded on Sunday night when Ireland made the trip to face Greece in the UEFA Nations League; McAteer coming off the bench in the last 10 minutes.

Heading into their fourth Group 2 game with three points after a solitary win against Finland on Thursday evening, they faced tough opposition in the form of group leaders Greece, who had three wins from three going into the fixture.

Goalless at the break, Anastasios Bakasetas gave the hosts the lead 48 minutes in, resulting in Ireland's reaction to look to the bench, the Leicester Academy graduate the fifth and final substitute in the game, but the young winger couldn't help turn the deficit before Petros Mantalos confirmed the Greek win with a second goal in injury time.

Currently third in the group, six points behind England and nine behind Greece, McAteer will have the chance to feature again, if he is called up for next month's round of fixtures when they face Finland before a showdown with England on Sunday 17 November at Wembley Stadium.
