Vardy: Anyone Can Beat Anyone

Jamie Vardy wants to ensure that Leicester City focus on their own game, rather than the hype surrounding Friday’s East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest.

The Foxes host Nuno Espírito Santo’s side at King Power Stadium in an 8pm kick-off this Friday, looking to build on successive Premier League victories earned against AFC Bournemouth and Southampton.

Reflecting on collecting three points at St. Mary’s Stadium, City’s No.9 referenced the topsy-turvy nature of the encounter, as Leicester came from two down to turn the tide in their favour in the closing moments.

“It was one of those games,” he admitted. “The first half was not so good, but we played into an advantage for them. We weren’t getting the press right up top to start with and then that had a domino effect. You saw that with the chances they were creating.

“We changed it at half-time, came out and you saw with the fans, as soon as Jordan [Ayew] put that ball in right at the end, everyone is over the moon. There’s been ups and downs and it’s been a rollercoaster, but I don’t think they’d want it to be any other way.”

Looking ahead to tackling Forest back on home soil, Vardy is keen not to get caught up in the noise that a derby game brings, as they look to continue a good run of form.

The 38-year-old continued: “These are the games that bring out the extra spice, but what we need to realise is that it’s just another game. There’s no point letting all the hype around it get to you.

We want to win, they want to win, so we’ll see what happens on Friday.

“We know it’s going to be tough. We want to win, they want to win, so we’ll see what happens on Friday. They’ve started really well, but it’s the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world, if not the best, and it’s so competitive. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing one week to the next, anyone can beat anyone on their day.”

Steve Cooper will be facing his former side for the first time since leaving the City Ground but focusing on what the Manager has brought to Leicester since his arrival in the summer, Vardy was full of praise for his influence on the squad.

“It’s been great,” the English forward added. “He’s got his own ideas; he’s wanted to keep some bits from last year with how successful we were and he’s just added layers on to what we could do.

“That’s what we’ve been doing, working on the training field and trying to implement that when it comes to games. He’s working with us every single day so he can see what everyone’s capable of and tell us what he wants from us.”
