- A win and a goal for Tom Cannon at Stoke City
- Harry Souttar helped Sheffield United keep another clean sheet
- Silko Thomas provided an assist in Wigan Athletic's victory

Having netted during a 3-2 defeat to Southampton in the Carabao Cup in midweek, the on-loan Leicester City forward netted again inside five minutes at bet365 Stadium, converting a penalty, before Ben Gibson’s late winner, to lift Stoke up to 16th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

A sixth goal of the campaign for the Republic of Ireland international, who played 90 minutes in Staffordshire, his 12th appearance for the Potters could now come during Wednesday’s visit to Ewood Park, facing Blackburn Rovers in a 7:45pm kick-off.

Harry Souttar’s Sheffield United also saw off Blackburn in Lancashire at the weekend, winning 2-0 with a ninth clean sheet of the season as Chris Wilder’s men moved up to third in the second-tier standings.

The 26-year-old has played throughout the last 11 matches and it’s Bristol City away next for the Blades this Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off).

It was Emirates FA Cup First Round weekend for clubs in Sky Bet League 1 and 2, including a substitute appearance for Silko Thomas in Wigan Athletic’s 2-0 victory away to Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

The game, which went to extra-time, saw Thomas come on as a half-time substitute and assist Scott Smith’s opener before Jonny Smith secured progression into round two, where the Latics will face Cambridge United.

Brandon Cover’s Port Vale fell to a rare defeat in the competition, losing 3-1 to Barnsley at Vale Park with the full-back featuring throughout the cup clash. Elsewhere in the competition, Chris Popov came off the bench 12 minutes from time as AFC Barrow were beaten 1-0 by Doncaster Rovers.

Sammy Braybrooke was a unused substitute in Dundee’s last-gasp 3-2 victory over Kilmarnock at Dens Park, lifting The Dee into the top half of the Scottish Premiership table. The young midfielder has played six matches for his adopted club, with a game against Aberdeen set for Saturday evening (5:30pm kick-off).
