Panayiotou Named Barclays U21 Player Of The Month
The promising frontman has scored six goals in his last six games in all competitions and has been pivotal in the Under-21s’ fine form in recent weeks, where they suffered just one defeat in their last nine games in all competitions.
The Academy graduate pipped fellow Fox Jak McCourt to the accolade and also saw off stern competition from Aston Villa’s Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Fulham’s Ange-Freddy Plumain, Liverpool’s Sergi Canos and Norwich City’s Remi Matthews.
Harry scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over current U21 Premier League Champions Chelsea last month, before netting a brace against Sunderland at King Power Stadium in the following game.
The St. Kitts and Nevis international was chosen ahead of all the players in Division One and Two of the U21 Premier League, which includes 24 teams.
The award is designed to recognise the next generation of footballing stars. It coincides with Barclays' own work to encourage the next generation of fans, which will see thousands of tickets and unique football experiences given away via the website.
A shortlist of players from the Barclays U21 Premier League was chosen based on statistics for March, and then a final winner was selected by the Premier League Club Support Managers, all of whom are former professional players who work with the club academies and watch several league matches per month.
A winner will be selected every month for the rest of the season, as well as the U21 Premier League Player of the Season being unveiled in May.
