Hamer: Cup Progress Bodes Well For City
- Ben Hamer reviews Leicester City's 4-1 success over Sheffield United on Tuesday
- Demarai Gray, Islam Slimani (2) and Ahmed Musa found the net in the Carabao Cup
- City are now in the pot for the Round 3 draw on Thursday morning
- Hamer also expresses his gratitute for the backing of the Blue Army in Sheffield
The 29-year-old stopper started in goal for the Foxes as they ran out comfortable 4-1 victors in the Round 2 clash at Bramall Lane ahead of Thursday morning’s next round draw.
United stifled City for long periods in the opening 45 minutes but, following the break, Craig Shakespeare’s men took control through Demarai Gray, Islam Slimani (2) and Ahmed Musa.
“In the first half we had plenty of the ball but we weren’t quite ruthless enough, we didn’t have that cutting edge in front of goal,” Hamer told LCFC TV at full-time.
“We spoke about that at half-time, came out in the second half and we dominated for large periods.
It’s always enjoyable when the team in front of you scores goals, it takes the pressure off you.

“We created the chances and obviously we finished them well when we had them which was a pleasing thing to see tonight.
“These lads haven’t played a lot this season but they’ve come in and done well.
“They [Sheffield United] had a few changes as well, a few of them hadn’t played for them during the previous weekend.
“But they certainly gave us a good test. They did create some chances. When they scored it perhaps encouraged them to attack a little more so it was a good test.”
As a goalkeeper, Hamer admitted that it was pleasing to see outfield players limit him to occasional saves rather than frequent interventions in south Yorkshire.

Hamer warms up ahead of kick-off in Sheffield.
He added: “It’s always enjoyable when the team in front of you scores goals, it takes the pressure off you. You can relax on your game a little more and the boys did that tonight.
“There were a lot of good performances from lads who haven’t played in the first couple of weeks so they have shown the manager what they can do.
“That bodes well for the team because we’re challenging the lads who are starting every week.”
Hamer was also thrilled with the support of the Blue Army who again followed the Club in numbers at such an early stage in the competition.
“Brilliant, I’m not going to lie,” he said.
“They were really noisy, especially in the second half when we got on top and they were starting to enjoy themselves.”
