Schmeichel: Squad Depth Key For City
- Kasper Schmeichel provides his thoughts ahead of Liverpool's visit on Saturday
- Leicester City enjoyed a 2-0 victory over the Reds in the Carabao Cup during the week
- City's Danish goalkeeper says performances have been encouraging this season
- The Club's strength in depth will be crucial, says Schmeichel
While the Foxes have registered just four points from their opening five Premier League fixtures this term, Craig Shakespeare’s men have earned plaudits on each occasion.
A 2-0 victory over the Reds five days previously in the Carabao Cup will give City confidence when they line up alongside Jürgen Klopp’s men on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off).
“The performances [have been] okay,” Schmeichel said, during his pre-match sit down with LCFC TV at Belvoir Drive earlier this week.
Winning Mentality Key For Schmeichel
Kasper Schmeichel talks to LCFC TV ahead of the Foxes' Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Saturday...
“It’s the small details that have let us down. We’ve been punished for any little mistake and that’s why the top sides are where they are.
“When we won the league, we were doing exactly the same. We haven’t quite done that this season and we’ve been punished for it.”
Tuesday’s success over Liverpool proved to many, both within and outside of Shakespeare’s squad, just how much strength in depth the Foxes have at their disposal this season.
“We have got strength in depth,” agreed Schmeichel.
It’s important that everyone plays with each other in training so they know what to expect.

“We really do need it as well. We’ve had a few injuries, to Fuchsy [Christian Fuchs] and Matty James. So we need players all over the place who can come in and do a job.
“When you’ve performed like we did against Liverpool and you can still put Shinji [Okazaki], Riyad [Mahrez] or Vards [Jamie Vardy] into the team, then it’s a really good sign.
“We train every single day. We don’t train like we have a straight back four, we mix it up, so everyone knows what they’re doing.
