Reeves Outlines Pre-Season Progression

Matt Reeves, Head of Fitness and Conditioning, believes Wednesday’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Oud-Heverlee Leuven will provide a foundation for Leicester City’s upcoming pre-season fixtures.

Claude Puel’s men have steadily increased their pre-season workload over the past three weeks, having now spent nearly two of those at Belvoir Drive.

Reeves has helped plan out City’s pre-season campaign, with a week in Austria fast approaching following Saturday’s clash with Notts County.

“It’s a great opportunity for the players to get their first run outs, certainly against different opposition,” he told LCFC TV. “We have to treat it as a step-wise progression as we go through.

We’ll start to see some players maybe getting a few more minutes on Saturday.

“Obviously, all the guys today got 45 minutes. We changed the team at half-time and went again in the second half. All the players and the whole squad can start to build on the hard work we’ve done in weeks one and two in pre-season.

“As you’ve seen through a lot of clips we’ve shown throughout the initial weeks, the guys have been working hard physically on and off the pitch and they’ve also had time to work on the technical and tactical aspect as well so it’s nice when it all pulls together ready for a friendly match like today (Wednesday).”

City are set to contest three fixtures in eight days, starting against Kevin Nolan’s Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

“We’ll start to see some players maybe getting a few more minutes on Saturday,” added Reeves. “Obviously, we’ll be playing over at Notts County and the fans will be there.

Matt is heavily involved in the work undertaken by the Sports Science Department at Leicester City.

“It’ll be the first time they’ve seen the new kit, new players and the rest of the squad out this pre-season so it should be a really good occasion and we can start to build on that.

“When we go out to Austria and play the Turkish and Italian opposition, they will then present very different challenges again so here it should be a really exciting period as we go through.”

Tune into LCFC TV for free on Saturday to watch City take on the Magpies.
