Petty: A Valuable Experience For City's Youngsters
- Leicester City's Development Squad suffer a 1-0 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park
- Bassala Sambou struck in the 48th minute to consign City to their first league defeat of 2018/19
- Ben Petty, Assistance Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, reflects on the game
- The young players enjoyed the experience of playing with senior figures, Petty tells LCFC TV
Bassala Sambou's 48th minute strike sealed a Premier League 2 victory for the Toffees but Petty, City’s Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, looked to the positives.
“It’s a disappointing result because we felt like we performed, especially in the first half, but we just lacked a bit of cutting edge in the final third,” he told LCFC TV in Merseyside.
“We knew that as long as the game went on without us scoring, there was always a risk of them hitting us on the sucker-punch, but we'll learn from this.”
City’s line-up featured a string of players to have represented the Club’s first team in recent seasons, including Andy King.

King's presence was key for City's youngsters.
Petty was delighted with his contribution, providing invaluable experience and knowhow alongside young midfielders Hamza Choudhury and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
He added: “Andy was fantastic with the young players and they need to try and learn from players like Andy. Hamza and Kiernan need to try and extract as much as they can.
“He’s a top pro, he’s won the Premier League title, and if we do get the opportunity to have him among our group then we need to embrace that.
“We had some real quality in there today so that’s why we’re so disappointed to come away with nothing from the game.”
