It is with sadness that we have learnt of the death of Geoff Scott, a defender who made 44 appearances for Leicester City between 1980 and 1982.
Geoff was signed from Stoke City in February 1980 as a replacement for Dennis Rofe, who had departed to Chelsea.
He was the regular left-back for the remainder of that season which ended in Jock Wallace’s young team securing promotion to the top flight as Second Division champions.
During the next two seasons, in the top flight and then back in the Second Division, Geoff was often used as an emergency centre-half, playing alongside either John O’Neill or Larry May.
In February 1982, he was transferred to Birmingham City for £50,000 and subsequently played for Charlton Athletic, Middlesbrough, Northampton Town and Cambridge United.
After retiring from the game, Geoff took a degree in business studies, worked in the telecommunications business and then became chief executive officer of Xpro, a welfare organisation supporting former professional footballers.
The Club’s thoughts are with Geoff’s family and friends at this sad time.
