Schmeichel’s Denmark Earn UEFA Nations League Promotion
- Kasper Schmeichel puts in a fine display to help Denmark gain promotion to League A of the UEFA Nations League
- Bartosz Kapustka plays from start to finish in Poland Under-21s’ slender defeat to Portugal Under-21s
- Three Foxes could feature on Saturday, including Kelechi Iheanacho and Çağlar Söyüncü
With the scoreline at 1-0 thanks to Nicolai Jorgensen’s effort, Schmeichel pulled off a crucial save to turn away Gareth Bale’s free-kick with just seven minutes to play.
The Danes then doubled their lead shortly after through a Martin Braithwaite volley, and while Bale went on to net in injury time, Schmeichel’s nation secured all three points to move up to League A of the Nations League.
Fellow Foxes Andy King and Danny Ward were unused substitutes on the night.
Kasper Schmeichel
Kasper Schmeichel denied Real Madrid's Gareth Bale with around seven minutes to go in Cardiff.
Earlier in the day, Bartosz Kapustka – on loan at Belgian outfit OH Leuven – played 90 minutes for Poland’s Under-21s in their U21 European Championship clash with Portugal.
The 21-year-old attacker’s nation fell to a narrow 1-0 loss following a solitary first-half strike from Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota.
On Saturday, Kelechi Iheanacho (Nigeria) and Çağlar Söyüncü (Turkey) could both add to their tally of international appearances, while young defender Alex Pascanu will aim to make his senior debut for Romania.
