The Foxes No.9’s 79th-minute penalty earned his side a share of the points after they fell behind to a Glenn Murray header early on at AMEX Stadium.
Playing over an hour with 10 men, City showed their fighting spirit to extend their unbeaten run to four Premier League games ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Southampton.
“I think it was a good point to get,” Vardy said at the full-time whistle. “Obviously, being down to 10 men and 1-0 down, you’ve seen how the lads have battled together and how we’ve taken it to Brighton even though we were reduced to 10 [men].
“I think with that performance, especially in the second half, we definitely deserved it.
“It’s just testament to all the boys and how close we are as a group. Everyone will run themselves into the ground for each other and that showed on the pitch.”
Vardy provided an update on his fitness, while also praising the impact of fellow substitute Kelechi Iheanacho, who went close to netting a winner late on in Brighton.
He continued: “I had a slight knock and didn’t train fully until Thursday, so I understand what the gaffer (Claude Puel) wanted.
“He’s brought me on in the second half and I felt fresh when I came on and he’s brought Kel (Kelechi Iheanacho) on as well who has got the penalty.
“If you look at the performance in the second half, if there was anyone who was going to get the win in the end it would have probably been us. We’ll take a point.
“At the end we were the ones it looked like if anything we would win. We’ve dug in. On another day we would have got the three points. We’ll take a point, it’s a hard place to come.”
