A busy week of fixtures came to a disappointing end last weekend when newly-promoted Crystal Palace handed the Foxes a defeat on home turf, following two second-half goals from Annabel Blanchard.

Following a tough day at the office, Leicester's central defender spoke to the media and admitted the team's performance just wasn't good enough to warrant any form of points.

"I'm utterly disappointed," Howard stated. "Let's not talk about the result, but just the performance; it wasn't good enough and it wasn't us. I think we never found our way into the game. We need to have a hard look at ourselves and learn from the that.

The Foxes failed to break down the Palace defence.

"I'm not sure what went wrong yet, it's too soon to say. I'm going to have to have a look at it but we couldn't close the distance and we couldn't build connections in possession.

"That pretty much left us not getting into the game, or taking hold of it and with that lack of control, it ended the way it did."

Only three games in to the Amandine Miquel era, Howard believed time is required to understand what is required but admitted that shouldn't be an excuse for Sunday's display on Filbert Way.

She added: "On the journey, we're aware of what's needed and it's just part of the season having a new management. We always look at the objective of the game and today we didn't tick any of them. Of course it's going to take time, but that's not an excuse and today just wasn't good enough.

"The league is always getting more competitive but I think our squad is getting stronger so we are more than capable of competing. The pressure that there is about getting our first three points is external; internally we're focused on the performances.

We just have to get back to the training pitch and put things right.

"Of course we need the results, as it's a results-based business, but we're focusing on the performance and as I said as the beginning, it's just not good enough."

With one point from their first three WSL games, Howard is looking for a reaction now within the group next week as they hope to learn from this defeat and come back stronger when they travel to Aston Villa next Sunday (2pm BST kick-off).

"We need to graft now, and put this right as soon as we can," the defender continued. "Of course, there's recovery we need to take into it, but I hope everyone watches it back, because we need to get back to the drawing board now. Our football game let us down today.

"We have two days off now and then we're back Wednesday, when we'll analyse the game. We have to be honest with ourselves and then there's no point dwelling on it. We just have to get back to the training pitch and put things right."
