City's Youngsters Discover HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens Group Stage Opponents

- Leicester City's youngsters are set to make their eighth appearance at the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens 
- The Foxes have won the Main Cup on two previous occasions, in 2013 and 2017
- City have been drawn in Group B, alongside Aston Villa, Kitchee and Singapore Cricket Club
- The competition will take place between 17-19 May at the home of Hong Kong Football Club

The Foxes, who lifted the Main Cup prize in 2013 and 2017, will once again head to the Causeway Bay district of Hong Kong alongside 16 other clubs from across the world.

Staged between Friday 17 and Sunday 19 May, the seven-a-side competition is a frantic affair, with short, dramatic matches staged on a smaller pitch in the searing Hong Kong heat.

After reaching the semi-finals last summer, City's two-time champions will headline the 2019 competition, which contains an illustrious cast list of youngsters from around the globe.

Leicester have been drawn in Group B alongside Sky Bet Championship club and Soccer Sevens regulars Aston Villa, as well as local sides Kitchee and Singapore Cricket Club.

Last year's champions, meanwhile, Newcastle United, will tackle Brighton & Hove Albion, Kashima Antlers and Yau Yee League Select in Group C.

While West Ham United and Rangers have previously starred at the tournament, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to make their Hong Kong debuts this May.

Group B

Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach Ben Petty, who has coached City in Hong Kong on the previous two occasions, says the Club's youngsters always look forward to the contest.

“Leicester City have had some wonderful experiences at HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens over the years and last summer was no different,” he said.

“It’s a fantastically well-run competition with a format that both challenges the players and brings added excitement for the fans, who have always turned out to show their support.

“We’re proud to have won the Main tournament on two previous occasions and I know that this year the team are be motivated to make that three.

“It’s a brilliant test for them as the competition gets tougher every year, but it’s one that we’re all looking forward to.”
