Top Premier League Goalscorers: Leonardo Ulloa

Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa, who joined Leicester City from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2014, is the Football Club's eighth all-time highest Premier League goalscorer.
More on this story...

Ulloa netted 18 goals for the Foxes over his four years at King Power Stadium, including a host of memorable efforts, especially during two of the most dramatic seasons in the Club's entire history.

The General Roca-born striker's most productive season in front of goal for City came in 2014/15 as Ulloa's 11 top-flight strikes inspired Nigel Pearson's men to preserve their Premier League status.

While Ulloa's tally dipped to six in 2015/16, few will ever forget the celebrations which followed efforts against the likes of Norwich City or West Ham United as Claudio Ranieri's side lifted the title.

Here are 10 goals from our former No.23 which will live long in the memory...

After 10 years away, City's Premier League return finally arrived in August 2014 as Everton visited Filbert Way. The Toffees started brightly and led through Aiden McGeady, however there was Ulloa, just two minutes later, to slam home from close range and level the score. City had to come from behind again, as Steven Naismith struck for the visitors, but Chris Wood's 86th-minute effort secured a point.

That opening day draw with Everton was followed by a narrow loss at José Mourinho's Chelsea before holding Arsenal to a 1-1 scoreline at King Power Stadium. At the fourth attempt, Leicester sealed their first win at Stoke, with Ulloa showing admirable technique to first check his run and then tuck in Paul Konchesky's cross just after the hour-mark in Staffordshire. The Foxes were up to 10th in the Premier League.

The visit of Louis van Gaal's Manchester United turned out to be one of the most memorable matches in Premier League history. Robin van Persie and Ángel Di Maria put the Red Devils two goals ahead and, while Ulloa's header halved the deficit, it was doubled again by Ander Herrera in the second half. David Nugent's penalty gave City hope before Esteban Cambiasso marked his home debut with a goal to make it 3-3. Jamie Vardy's breakaway finish, on the other hand, put Leicester 4-3 ahead and another spot-kick, from Ulloa, confirmed a remarkable victory for Nigel Pearson's side.

Just two wins in 24 games following that incredible Manchester United success had left Leicester bottom of the Premier League, but their springtime winning run was extended to three matches in April 2015. After dramatic victories over West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City were the visitors to King Power Stadium, where goals from Ulloa and Andy King lifted the Foxes off the foot of the table.

Following on from that win over Swansea, Leicester won again at Burnley before suffering defeat by champions elect Chelsea. However, they regained momentum with a comfortable triumph over Steve McClaren's Newcastle - the Magpies' eighth consecutive loss. Ulloa's header, after just 38 seconds, set the tone, with Wes Morgan's effort and another Ulloa strike, from the penalty spot, making it five wins in six.

Perhaps the greatest-ever 'Great Escape' had already been secured at Sunderland by the time relegated Queens Park Rangers visited Filbert Way in May 2015. There were five different scorers - Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Ulloa himself, Esteban Cambiasso and Andrej Kramarić - as the Foxes concluded their first season back in the top flight for over a decade with a resounding win.

Remarkably, one year after sitting at the basement of the Premier League, Leicester - now managed by Claudio Ranieri - knew they could climb to the summit with a win at Newcastle in November 2015. In a game remembered for Jamie Vardy equaling Ruud van Nistelrooy's consecutive goalscoring record - which he'd later break - Ulloa's header and a scrambled finish from Shinji Okazaki sent City to the top of the pile.

Possibly Ulloa's most famous goal for the Foxes sent tremors through the city of Leicester.

The Foxes remained top in February 2016, despite a potentially damaging late defeat by Arsenal at Emirates Stadium two weeks earlier. However, just as the critics sharpened their pens, up stepped Ulloa to send a scuffed finish past John Ruddy in the 89th minute of a tense encounter with Norwich City. It kept City's lead to five points, while the University of Leicester detected tremors on the Richter scale from the celebrations, leading to Ulloa's effort being branded the 'Earthquake Goal'.

An enormous release of relief followed Ulloa's last-minute leveller against the Hammers.

No title can be secured without hardship and Leicester had to endure extreme pressure when Slaven Bilić brought West Ham United to Leicester. Jamie Vardy's 18th-minute opener put the Foxes ahead, but when City's No.9 was dismissed for a second bookable offence, the home side quickly found themselves behind, courtesy of goals from Andy Carroll and Aaron Cresswell. In the fifth minute of added time, though, Ulloa remained cool to power home a penalty to rescue a precious point.

Ulloa did not disappoint when he was needed to deputise for Vardy in attack.

Tension was in the air when Swansea arrived in the East Midlands with Leicester being without star striker Jamie Vardy. Despite Claudio Ranieri roaring that City would go 'straight away to try to win the title' - defying a season-long hesitance to discuss winning the Premier League - the Italian needed Ulloa to step up to the mark. He did exactly that as the Foxes edged closer to the title, netting twice in between other efforts from Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton, to secure Leicester's biggest win of the season.
