All Focus On Sheffield United, Says Morgan

LCFC Women manager Jonathan Morgan is looking no further ahead than Sunday's crunch clash with Sheffield United, as the league leaders look to maintain their position at the Championship's summit.

The Foxes host the Blades at Farley Way Stadium this weekend (2pm kick-off) for the second meeting between the two sides in 2020/21, following a 2-2 draw played out in September.

Prior to the game, Morgan praised his counterpart, Neil Redfearn and the job he has done during his first season since taking charge of the Blades in the summer of 2020.

"Sheffield United are a great team, obviously managed by a good manager," Morgan began, speaking to LCFC TV earlier this week. "They work hard, they work for one another, they are going to be very difficult [to play] and in all honesty, I think the game with Sheffield could go either way.

Millie Farrow scored her first goal for LCFC Women before Natasha Flint's late penalty at Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

"I think they can beat us, we can beat them, it could be a draw. I know that's a little bit of a cliché, but the reality is that Sheffield are very dangerous and they have a lot of good players.

"We can't take them lightly so all we can do is keep working hard, focus on what we want to focus on for the game and hopefully if we deliver, we can pick up the three points."

Over halfway into the season, the league is starting to shape up, with Durham sitting just one point behind City, Liverpool a further four points back and fourth-placed Sheffield United also in the hunt.

On a run of five consecutive league victories and unbeaten in three previous games against teams in the top four, Morgan believes it is vital to continue that form for the remainder of the campaign.

It's very important that we make sure that we do what we set out to do. The girls need to just focus and I'm very positive that if they do that, we can come back happy.

He explained: "It's massive. At the very least you don't want to drop points with the teams around you. From our point of view, we want to win every game possible. But with the likes of Sheffield, Durham and Liverpool all equally doing just as good, all equally a threat, it's going to a nervous day.

"I think it's going to be a cagey day for everybody, because nobody wants to drop ground, but it's very important that we make sure that we do what we set out to do. The girls need to just focus and I'm very positive that if they do that, we can come back happy."

Working their way up to the top of the table for the first time in the Club's history has been no mean feat and Morgan credited the players' efforts to help make it a reality.

"People just see the 90 minutes but it's everything that's happening in training, the girls pushing each other and working hard for each other and keeping it competitive for themselves," LCFC Women's manager added.

"Also the fact that the girls have the right attitude that they want to push to get into the team, it makes my job a joy. It makes it harder to pick the team, obviously, but it's also great to have that feeling that we can then also name a settled team, because we know that they are also going to go out and do the business.

"That's only a reality because they are being pushed on a daily basis. The second half of the season, we just want to keep working hard on that.

"The girls are going to be looking to take that shirt and that's a position I'm really fortunate to be in, that I've got hungry players as well as successful players at this moment in time."
