City stormed to the FA Women’s Championship title last term, gaining promotion to the top tier of women’s football in England for the first time in their history.

After the summer break, the squad made a return to Belvoir Drive on Wednesday for pre-season testing, and manager Morgan spoke of his excitement after welcoming the players back.

“It’s a fantastic feeling,” Morgan told LCFC TV. “It’s been a busy summer we’ve been planning probably since the Manchester United game, as soon as that game finished we turned our attention to the WSL.

“For me it’s a great achievement, everybody that was involved in the club last season worked tremendously hard to get this and to make this a reality and hopefully we can do the fans and the Club proud over the next 12 months.

Jonathan Morgan, LCFC Women manager, hopes the Foxes can build on last season's FA Women's Championship glory.

“We’re under no illusions, we know we’re not going to win every single game this season however we are going to be competitive, we are going to work hard.

“Towards the end of last season we really created a team togetherness which we’ve seen quite clearly on the pitch and we want this to carry on this season.

“The most important thing is that the girls enjoy the year, they rise to the challenge and we just work hard together as a collective and we support each other and see how we do.”

Morgan knows the Foxes will come up against much sterner competition in 2021/22, as they prepare to face England’s elite sides in the Women’s Super League.

For us, we’re just making sure that the girls rise to that and understand that the work ethic has got to be better and more efficient than last year.

However, with a fierce work ethic, he believes they can build on the foundations they laid as a group en route to the Championship title.

“Obviously we went on to create that record of 12 wins on the bounce in the Championship I think we ended up winning the league by eight points in the end and we had a very, very successful year,” he said.

“It was topped off with the game against Manchester United where we actually beat a quality WSL side at their place but I think from our point of view, we’ve retained the right players.

“We want to keep that team ethos from last season coming into this year but more importantly it’s now turning our attention to know that this is a much harder league with much better players, much more tactical information will have to be taken onboard and most importantly they are going to have to work even harder than they did last season.

“For us, we’re just making sure that the girls rise to that and understand that the work ethic has got to be better and more efficient than last year.”
