Shannon O’Brien Commits Future To LCFC Women

- Shannon O’Brien agrees a contract extension at Belvoir Drive
- Striker ended the last campaign as LCFC Women Player of the Season
- Forward made 27 appearances during the 2021/22 season

The 20-year-old - who was voted the team's Player of the Season for 2021/22- has signed fresh terms to keep her at Belvoir Drive ahead of City’s second campaign in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

An exciting forward, the Foxes youngster also scooped the Goal of the Season award for her strike against Durham Women in November 2021 - capping off a successful second year in Leicestershire.

Speaking to LCFC TV, O’Brien said: "I am delighted that we got the deal done. We've been speaking about this for some time and I'm happy it has been announced. I am looking forward to the coming season and paying back the faith the Club has shown in me.

"I know what I want to achieve in the coming season, and I believe the team will come back in stronger. It's important to reflect on what we went through last year, and hopefully we can use that experience to our advantage.”

Born and raised in the East Midlands, O'Brien began her senior career with Coventry United Ladies, making her debut for Coventry as a 16-year-old in 2018 before transferring to LCFC Women in January 2021.

In her first season in the county, O’Brien contributed to LCFC Women’s Barclays Women’s Championship title-winning season with three goals from only nine appearances.

Having settled into life at Belvoir Drive, the attacker ended her second season with the Club as joint top goal-scorer, playing a pivotal role in the team managed by Lydia Bedford, securing WSL status for a consecutive season.

O’Brien returned to Belvoir Drive earlier in July, linking back up with her team-mates for the Foxes’ pre-season campaign.
