- There were four different scorers at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground
- Molly Pike scored twice in the last five minutes of the Group B match
- The midfielder hopes this momentum can be carried into the weekend

Ahead of the trip to Sunderland, the Foxes’ last competitive match was a home defeat to Chelsea in the Barclays Women’s Super League, and Pike explained how the team were keen to get back to winning ways.

City did just that on Wednesday when they put five past cup opponents Sunderland, and the midfielder hopes that the momentum from this win will carry on to the weekend when Leicester welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to King Power Stadium.

“We’ve been working hard for the past six weeks and this was the perfect way to return,” Pike told LCFC TV in her post-match interview.

Today will certainly be a massive boost for us as we look to pick up some positive results, and we hope this can start at the weekend.

“I’m happy on a personal note, to be able to contribute by getting two goals. I’m also delighted for the team as there were four different goalscorer’s, so it gives us plenty of confidence ahead of Sunday.

“For my second goal, the ball just fell to me on the edge of the box. In the moment I just wanted to keep it low, and thankfully I did and it ended up in the back of the net!”

Pike was keen to point out the hard work the team have been putting in over the last month-and-a-half, as the Foxes hope to right some wrongs, and turn their fortunes around with more points to come in 2023.

Molly Pike has made 10 appearances for LCFC Women this season.

“It’s a really exciting time at the Club,” the No.8 explained. “Since Willie [Kirk] has come in, and introduced his new style, the team has really started to gel and even though a few games got cancelled before Christmas (Sunderland, Liverpool and Manchester City), we’ve enjoyed the time to reset.

“Today will certainly be a massive boost for us as we look to pick up some positive results, and we hope this can start at the weekend.

“Brighton will be a tough test, but if we perform like we did today, then I’m confident we can score some goals and get the three points that we need.”
