Having failed to qualify from the group stages of the Continental Tyres League Cup, after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City last week, the Foxes make their first appearance in the FA Cup this weekend.

They’ll take on the Royals who they have already faced once this season, when Leicester fell to a 2-1 defeat in injury time, following a late brace from Rachel Rowe.

But since then, City have grown in ability and confidence, picking up their first points of the season with a superb 3-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month, and Goodwin hopes her side can bring this form in to a tournament that means so much.

Every game is important, and we take each one as it comes.

“I don’t really have many memories from the men’s competition, but the Women’s FA Cup is exciting,” Missy explained. “When I was younger, women’s football wasn’t as big, so it’s amazing to see how much the competition has grown.

“Wembley just shows how far women’s football has come. Before, there was no possibility of getting to play there, but now, we’ve seen big matches there, most recent being England winning the UEFA Women’s EUROs.

“It’s nice for younger girls than me to be able to watch and to be able to aspire to that level helps the development of the sport.”

Asked whether the main focus is still on league survival, City's No.20 reiterated how every game is important, and a cup win on Sunday may mean more than just a spot in the next round.

Missy Goodwin produced an impressive left-wing display against Brighton at King Power Stadium.

“We want to win every game that comes,” she continued. “A win at the weekend gets us a step closer to the final, and we all have the same aim to reach that.

“It’s important to focus on the cup and the league. We’ve picked up points in the WSL, so that has given us confidence into the weekend, but every game is important, and we take each one as it comes.

“We’re focusing on ourselves and what we can do to break Reading down. We’ve faced them before so we know they’re tough opponents, so if we stick to our game plan, we will be fine.”
