On-Loan Devlin Inspires Birmingham Women Comeback

Charlie Devlin played a part in both Birmingham City Women's goals in their win over Blackburn Rovers, as four other Foxes were in loan action last weekend.

Birmingham got back to winning ways in the Barclays Women's Championship when they beat Blackburn 2-1 last weekend at St. Andrew's Stadium, and Devlin played a crucial part in the victory.

A goal down until the last 15 minutes, the City loanee kickstarted the comeback by scoring a direct free-kick in the 78th minute. Then, with less than five minutes to play, Devlin was at the heart of the action again when she looped a cross to the back post for former Fox Libby Smith to head in, ensuring the win.

Sophie Barker, currently on loan at Sheffield United, was also on a winning team last week when the Blades picked up a big 2-1 win over Championship title contenders London City Lionesses.

Playing the full game, the loan player witnessed Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Mia Enderby score the comeback goals either side of the break, as the Sheffield outfit sit ninth in the standings after 15 games.

In Scotland, Natasha Flint started in Celtic's huge clash with Glasgow City at the top of the Scottish Women's Premier League. Sadly for the striker, her side were beaten 1-0 in a narrow defeat which leaves the Hoops second in the table.

Priscilla Chinchilla scored the only goal of the match 65 minutes in, as Glasgow City take a six-point lead at the summit, leaving Celtic on 53 points, and with only their second defeat of the 2022/23 season.

Closer to Leicester, Connie Scofield and Ellen Jones played in Coventry United's 5-1 loss to Durham, as they remain bottom of the Championship with six points, seven behind next placed Sunderland.

Scofield played the full 90 minutes, while Jones was taken off during the match as Isobel Goodwin scored Coventry's only goal an hour in.
