Maddison, Evans & Ward All In International Action On Friday
- James Maddison earns another start for England as they sweep past Malta
- Late heartbreak for Jonny Evans who appears in Northern Ireland's defeat to Denmark
- Danny Ward plays 90 minutes for Wales in their 4-2 loss at home to Armenia
- A Denmark Under-21s appearance for Victor Kristiansen in a win over Lithuania Under-21s
A starter for a second successive match with England, Maddison played the opening 70 minutes as the Three Lions cruised to a 4-0 win away in Malta in their latest UEFA EURO qualifier, a third straight success to begin their Group C campaign.
Ferdinando Apap gave Gareth Southgate's side a helping hand when he scored an early own goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane soon capitalising to ensure England took a comfortable lead into half-time.
Maddison won his third international cap before being replaced by Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, ahead of a fourth goal being added from the penalty spot when Callum Wilson converted following a handball late in the game.
James Maddison
James Maddison was a starter for England in their comfortable win over Malta.
There was late disappointed for Evans in Copenhagen, who earned his 101st international cap for Northern Ireland in a 1-0 defeat to Denmark.
Foxes legend Kasper Schmeichel was in opposition for the Danes at Parken Stadium, and they scored just after half-time through Jonas Wind.
Captaining his country, Evans thought he had played a key role in a last-gasp Northern Ireland equaliser, heading on for Callum Marshall to find the net. However, after a lengthy VAR review, an offside curtailed the celebrations and confirmed the narrow loss.
It was a night to forget for the hosts at Cardiff City Stadium, with Ward starting in goal for Wales as they were beaten 4-2 by Armenia.
Coming into the game, the Welsh had won one and lost one of their opening two UEFA EURO qualifiers, but were undone as braces from Lucas Zelarayan and Grant Leon Mamedova saw the visitors earn an impressive result.
In Jonovos, Victor Kristiansen was a starter for Denmark Under-21s who secured a 2-1 success away to Lithuania Under-21s in their latest UEFA EURO U21 qualifier.
Maurits Kjærgaard gave the Danes the lead after only nine minutes, before striker Mads Hansen netted a quickfire second just two minutes later.
The home side soon struck back but, after they were reduced to 10 men in the second half, Denmark saw out the match to claim the three points.
Across the ongoing international break we will be covering the City players in action on LCFC.com. Patson Daka for Zambia, along with Wout Faes and Timothy Castagne with Belgium, could represent their nations on Saturday.
