Goodwin: The Manager Believes In Us

LCFC Women have enjoyed a positive start to the Barclays Women’s Super League season with two wins from their opening two games; most recently beating Everton 1-0 last weekend at King Power Stadium.
After hitting the ground running, City's No.20 gave insight into the mood around Belvoir Drive, revealing the Foxes have always remained positive and trusted one another to get the job done.
“The team morale is very high,” the winger told the media. “But we’re down to earth and know that we’re only two games in and there’s a long way to go. But we’re taking the positives that we create. Despite everything that happened last season, the morale was always high, and this season is no different.
“The most important thing to us is the statement to the fans. They waited so long last season to get the first three points, and to know that we’ve won two in two is a great feeling.
“It’s great for myself to have started both games, but the competition in the squad is very high which is pushing the standards in training, and I’ve got to make sure I keep my standards high to be able to retain my place in the team.
“Personally, my aim is to keep playing and developing, but as a team, as I said, the competition is very high so to keep playing and helping the team out is what I hope to do.
“Every game this season will be tough. We’ve looked at their strengths and what areas we can exploit. We’ll go into it like we have done every game so far this season, playing hard to want to win.”
Young forward Goodwin has started in both games so far this term, and labelled Kirk’s confidence in her abilities as encouraging for her development while she aims to help improve on last season’s 10th-placed finish.
The team’s focus switches to the League Cup as they take on Liverpool, another team with a 100 per cent record so far this campaign, at Pirelli Stadium on Wednesday night (7pm kick-off).
“Our thoughts align with Willie [Kirk's] thoughts,” she continued. “As players, we’re taking the competition very seriously and we’ll put out a good performance and hopefully we’ll start the group stage with a win.
“This is now my third season with Leicester, so I feel like I have established myself within the team, and signing a new contract was something I was very keen to do as my ambition aligned with that of the Club.
Petermann Scores In Home Debut Win
LCFC Women made it two wins from two after victory over Everton last weekend.
“Every one of us is learning something new each day which helps in development, but I think with the new staff that Willie Kirk has brought in, the training and everything has been exceptional, so it allows us to learn new things.
“Last season we had a shortage on chances and goals, so this year as a forward, and with the new signings, the main thing is to put away the chances that we do create and so far this season we have done that.
“It helps that the Manager shows belief in us, and not just because of our age. But by selecting us and trusting in our abilities, it allows us to play with more freedom and confidence knowing that he believes in us and his belief plays a big part in our success.”
