They are some of the lyrics to the Blue Army-inspired song which became a hit in 2023/24 as City roared back to the Premier League as Sky Bet Championship champions. It was that stirring tune – adapted by local band The Mercians – which was a fitting soundtrack as the Club confirmed Fatawu’s permanent arrival this week.
Now a full-time member of the Leicester squad, after a hugely successful first campaign in England on loan, Fatawu can’t wait to start a new dawn at King Power Stadium. He’ll link back up with his City team-mates for pre-season training this month as an exciting Premier League season comes into view for the Foxes.
“I feel amazing,” Fatawu beamed at King Power Stadium after agreeing a five-year deal. “It’s so good to be back and I’m just back to focus again for next season. I feel so much motivation to be in the Premier League. It’s something new to me. I’m going to go hard for that, with the team. I can’t wait to see [my team-mates]. I’ve missed them so much. They are like a family now. I didn’t think I’d miss some of them, but when I went away, I was really missing them! I can’t wait to see them.”
That team spirit was integral to City’s promotion-winning feat last term and Fatawu ranks the achievement among his finest-ever moments. Eager not to dwell, though, the former Sporting Lisbon winger is already fully focused on life in the top tier.
“For me, [to win promotion] was amazing,” the 20-year-old added. “It felt so good and it was one of the best moments in my career. I feel so good and I just want to keep going. I hope that this season goes well as well. They’re amazing team-mates. Everyone at the Club was giving energy to the team and it felt so good. I feel so proud. For me, I take it as the beginning. I’m just getting started.”
Hearing a reimagination of his song brought back fond memories for Fatawu – who outlined his gratitude to the Foxes faithful for their backing.
“With the fans, it feels so good to be with them,” he explained. “They always give more energy and it gives me the motivation to do more. They are the best. [The fans singing my name] is special. It’s amazing for me. I always feel good when I hear the fans singing my name. That will keep me going.”
