Barnes Called Up For England Under-20s Squad
- Harvey Barnes could represent England for the first time at the Under-20s Toulon Tournament

A landmark season for young Leicester City midfielder has been crowned with a call-up for England ahead of the Under-20s Toulon Tournament this summer.
The 19-year-old was promoted to the Under-23s last August after impressing at the HKFC Soccer Sevens. Named as the Club’s on Monday, Barnes has enjoyed a remarkable few months since his debut in the UEFA Champions League in December.
Barnes went on to register five goals on loan at MK Dons before returning for Steve Beaglehole’s Under-23s this month to score a brace against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane which helped preserve their Premier League 2 Division 1 status.
Discussing his call-up this week, Barnes said: “It’s a proud moment. It’s something I’ve been working towards. Obviously it’s my first one, so that’s very exciting. It’s been a positive season for me so it’s nice that it has been noticed. It’s always been my boyhood dream to pull on that England shirt and, if I get the chance to play this summer, it’ll be a special moment.”
As current holders, the 18-man England squad will head to France later this month to defend their title. The young Lions will be represented by several age groups, including the
First-team England manager Gareth Southgate, then U21s head coach, had City full-back Ben Chilwell among his ranks when he guided the national side to their fifth Toulon Tournament title last summer.
