I'll Keep Doing My Best For The Team, Says Tierney

Adaptability on the pitch has allowed for a smooth transition of the management team explained Sam Tierney, who hopes to help LCFC Women pick up their first win of the season this weekend.

As City's highest appearance maker, Tierney has seen all the highs and lows in recent times and believes City's current setback, a frustrating 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace, can and will be overcome by sticking together and to the process.

"With any result and performance like that, we reviewed it early on in the week and made sure to pick apart what happened," the midfielder explained. "On reflection, the performance wasn't good enough and we weren't up to out standards that we set.

"Having said that, the Manager and players have remained positive and Amandine [Miquel] spoke to us, and even though we have high standards, it's a good thing it's happened early on because we have time to fix it, which is what we've done this week on the training pitch.

"The group is together and we really trust in the process and the plan laid out. We can't forget that the first two performances this season were good and that shows we are capable of being better."

Tierney played in every single WSL match last season for City.

Still on the hunt for a maiden victory this term, the former Doncaster Rovers Belles player is looking to block out the noise from outside the training ground and focus on the job at hand, which sees the Foxes travel to Villa Park this weekend to face a side also looking for their first three points.

Tierney added: "As a player, we try not to focus too much on the outside noise, and keeping together as a team. We have a perfect fixture this weekend to fix it and get back to the standards we know we can reach.

"We know what Villa are like and what they've done in previous years. It will be a tough game like it always has been. They're a physical side that can score goals and have a squad full of creative players.

"They'll be frustrated with their start of the season so they'll be hungry for points too, but so are we and off the back of our last performance, we'll be looking to rectify that."

I like to think I'm adaptable, and I think that's helping me at the minute trying to understand a new style of play.

Over the years, Tierney has played multiple positions in the team, joining as a central defender before advancing forward to an attacking midfield role.

Relying on her versatility, City's No.3 explained how her understanding of the game is helping her to get to grips with the new philosophy laid out by Miquel and her coaching staff.

"As a player, I like to think I'm adaptable, and I think that's helping me at the minute trying to understand a new style of play and that's something I'm open minded with," Tierney continued. "I'm enjoying the process of what the Manager wants and trying to help, as a player, to do that.

"Whatever my job is on the day, I'll give 100 per cent and I have done ever since I've been here. Game by game, tactical things may change, and I may be required in a different way, but it's been positive for me so far, and I'll keep doing my best to help the team."
