Shakespeare: Saturday Too Soon For Huth & Iborra
- Robert Huth, Vicente Iborra, Wes Morgan and Kelechi Iheanacho all feature in Craig Shakespeare’s fitness update
- Morgan is available for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea at King Power Stadium (3pm kick-off)
- Huth will play for the Club’s Under-23s on Monday evening
Huth will continue his recovery from ankle surgery on Monday evening by featuring for the Club’s Development Squad against West Ham United but will not face his former side, who visit King Power Stadium this weekend.
Iborra, yet to feature competitively this season, is also set to miss out against Antonio Conte’s men, but is making good progress after picking up a groin injury at the start of the campaign.
First discussing the skipper’s fitness, Shakespeare said on Friday: “Wes Morgan is fine. He didn’t miss a day’s training during the international break, so I’m pleased to report that one.
“Robert Huth is fine. My thoughts are that tomorrow will be too soon for him but he’s earmarked to play on Monday with the Under-23s. It’s important that he gets some game time now for that sharpness.
Training Exclusive: Chelsea
The lads are back on the training pitch this week as Premier League action returns against Chelsea after the international break.
“Vicente Iborra is in the same situation. He’s trained and there’s no ill effects but it might be too soon for tomorrow. He hasn’t played 90 minutes of late, but the idea is to give him some game time next week.”
Meanwhile, Shakespeare is continuing to assess the fitness of striker Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored for Nigeria against Cameroon last week.
“Kelechi went away with Nigeria,” said Shakespeare. “He didn’t play as much as he hoped, but he has trained with us the last couple of days.
“He is short on minutes and we’ll have to see where that one goes.”
