Beaglehole: Much Better Second Half
- Steve Beaglehole provides his thoughts on the Development Squad's 2-1 win over Everton
- Leicester City triumphed courtesy of two late strikes from Yohan Benalouane on Monday afternoon
- The Under-23s are now unbeaten in 14 matches, a run which stretches back to September
- Beaglehole was particularly impressed by his side's improved performance in the second half
Speaking during his post-match briefing with LCFC TV, the Under-23s manager conceded that his side had disappointed in the opening 45 minutes, but he was delighted with their efforts later on.
The reigning Premier League 2 champions took the lead after 23 minutes through Fraser Hornby before a late Yohan Benalouane double overturned the scores in City’s favour in the final 10 minutes.
It is a result which means Beaglehole’s side are now undefeated in 14 outings in all competitions, a superb run of form which has remained unblemished since the middle of September.
Beaglehole On Latest City Victory
Steve Beaglehole speaks to LCFC TV following a 2-1 victory for the Under-23s over Everton.
“We lost 1-0 at Arsenal [on 15 September] and, apart from the Derby and Liverpool games, when we were really exceptional, it was one of our best displays. We actually played really well that night.
“This was probably the poorest we’ve played in the first half, Everton really came at us; they had a game plan and we were a bit disjointed, but we had a couple of words at half-time.
“You can win a game in many different ways. Sam Hughes made a big difference in midfield, he showed his strength and Yohan played like the player we know he is before scoring two great goals.”
We were much better in the second half and it’s a fantastic achievement to win, a draw would have been great; it’s a testament to their effort.

Beaglehole praised his side for their reversal of fortunes after the break and says their improved performance in the second period is a sign of the progress being made in the Club’s youth ranks.
“We weren’t pushing in or getting tight and that’s not us,” he added. “We were much better in the second half and it’s a fantastic achievement to win, so it’s a testament to their effort.
“If that’s a first team game, you’d be elated with it and so should we be.”
