Foxes Set For Pre-World Cup International Duty
- Sixteen Leicester City players are on international duty over the next few weeks
- A series of friendlies have been scheduled ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia next month
- Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire could face the trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa as England take on Nigeria in a friendly 2 June
Foxes duo Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire are in action for England, who play Nigeria at Wembley Stadium on 2 June and Costa Rica at Elland Road on 7 June.
They will come up against City teammates Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa, who’ve all been named in Nigeria’s preliminary World Cup squad.
The trio play their first friendly against Congo on 29 May, followed by England and the Czech Republic.
Jamie Vardy
Vardy scored 20 Premier League goals for City in 2017/18.
Ricardo Pereira, who will join City next month after terms were agreed with Porto, will link up with new Foxes team-mate Adrien Silva for Portugal in their first friendly against Tunisia, who have named Yohan Benalouane in their preliminary squad, on 28 May.
Portugal’s other fixtures include Belgium on 2 June and Algeria on 7 June, while Tunisia face Turkey on 1 June and Spain on 9 June.
Riyad Mahrez will feature for Algeria, alongside Islam Slimani. They play Cape Verde on 1 June, ahead of their meeting with Portugal.
City’s No.1 Kasper Schmeichel has been named in Denmark’s preliminary World Cup squad. They play Sweden and Mexico in friendlies on 2 and 9 June.
Adrien Silva
Adrien Silva has been capped 22 times for Portugal.
Wales also play Mexico in a friendly on 28 May; Andy King and George Thomas have been named in the side. Shinji Okazaki has been named in Japan’s preliminary squad for the World Cup.
They play Ghana in a friendly on 30 May, followed by Switzerland on 8 June and Paraguay on 12 June.
Hamza Choudhury, meanwhile, has been called up for England U21s, who are going to the Maurice Revello Tournament in France at the end of this month.
They face China on 26 May, Mexico three days later, followed by Qatar on 1 June. Finally, Callum Wright has been named in the England U18s squad ahead of the Panda Cup in China.
They play their first game against Uruguay on 23 May, followed by China on 25 May and Hungary on 27 May.
