Barnes Nets Fifth West Brom Goal

Harvey Barnes continued his excellent loan spell at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday by netting in their 4-1 Championship victory over Reading.

Having scored a brilliant solo strike to salvage a draw against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, the Academy graduate was once again on target for the Baggies.

Dwight Gayle’s double put West Brom in front after an early strike from Reading’s Leandro Bacuna before Barnes made it 3-1 and Kyle Bartley added a fourth with 10 minutes to play.

Barnes will now hope to transform his form onto the international stage after earning his first call-up for England Under-21s, who face Andorra and Scotland in the U21 European Championship qualifying rounds.

Over in the Scottish Premiership, Filip Benković made his fourth appearance for Celtic, who surged to a 6-0 victory at St. Johnstone.

James Forrest scored four goals as Brendan Rodgers’ men moved up to third in the table – Celtic are yet to concede with Benković on the pitch.

Harvey Barnes has scored five goals in 12 Championship appearances for the Baggies.

Meanwhile, Bartosz Kapustka and Elliott Moore both completed 90 minutes for Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Friday against KV Mechlen.

The Belgian Proximus League next face Lommel on Saturday 13 October at King Power at Den Dreef Stadion.

Striker Islam Slimani, on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahçe S.K., also played 90 minutes during the goalless draw with Emmanuel Adebayor’s Basaksehir.

Slimani’s side sit 15th in the table having amassed eight points from as many fixtures, and on Saturday 20 October take on Sivasspor.

Filip Benković has helped Celtic to three clean sheets in three appearances.

Attacker George Thomas emerged from the bench during Scunthorpe United’s 3-2 defeat to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Thomas, who has earned a call-up to the senior Wales national side, replaced goalscorer Lee Novak with 10 minutes to play during Stuart McCall's first loss as Iron boss.

Finally, Academy stopper Max Bramley was also in loan action over the weekend, as his AFC Telford United side exited the Emirates FA Cup.

The Bucks lost 2-1 to Evostik League leaders Warrington Town in the third qualifying round and return to National League North action at home to Chorley on Saturday.
