Despite a gutsy display against the champions, Craig Shakespeare’s men were edged 2-1 at King Power Stadium following strikes from Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kanté.

The Foxes produced another promising performance, but after Jamie Vardy won and converted a penalty just after the hour mark, they couldn’t net the all-important equaliser.

Reflecting on the game on LCFC Radio following the full-time whistle, former Fox Taggart said: “Leicester were a little lacklustre in the first half and then got hit by a sucker punch in the second half with N’Golo Kanté’s goal.

“It was only when Jamie Vardy got the penalty that Leicester kicked into life and really got at Chelsea and caused them some problems.

Shakespeare Reviews Chelsea Defeat

City manager Craig Shakespeare gives his thoughts following the defeat to Chelsea at King Power Stadium.

“It’s food for thought for Craig Shakespeare. You can just see at times the gulf between the two teams. Chelsea are not the champions for no reason and in the end, they were worthy winners.

“There’s always positives to take out of this result and it’s important that they move onto the next game with those positives in mind.”

Join Taggart and presenter Sam Putnam on LCFC TV on Monday evening from 6pm as they look back at the game, as well as bringing you build-up to the Development Squad’s Premier League 2 encounter with West Ham United at King Power Stadium.

You can watch the Under-23s take on the Hammers live, for free, on LCFC TV (7pm kick-off).
